Welcome to Community Relations

The University of Waterloo is more than a world-class institution for innovation and learning.  We are proud to contribute to the success of our community and we have a rich history of giving back to make our community a better place.

The Community Relations team is a point of contact for our community. We are a bridge between the campus and the community around us.

In doing so, we

  • lead signature events and programs that strengthen relationships between the university and our community.
  • partner with public officials and community leaders to identify and resolve issues of concern to our community.
  • develop collaborative relationships to advance the university’s mission and strategic plan.
  • promote the university as a resource to our community.

The past year has been unprecedented with the global pandemic having changed the way we interact with one another, and specifically for Community Relations, how we engage with the community. We have moved to virtual events as a way to connect with the community and continue to provide innovative and collaborative opportunities to engage with the University of Waterloo.

If you are a campus event planner, we've updated our campus event planners resources to include virtual event insights and resources.

Every fall, University of Waterloo is a proud participant of the annual United Way workplace campaign. Proceeds from our campaign stay in our community, helping the United Way Kitchener-Waterloo & Area.

Waterloo's public lectures are an entertaining and informative way to learn about emerging ideas and research. Some of the guests we have had in the past include Jack Dorsey, Alexis Ohanian, and Chris Hadfield.
