Annual McGill Shakespeare Lecture

The Waterloo Institute for Complexity and Innovation (WICI) is pleased to share that The Friends of the McGill Libraries and the Stratford Festival are delighted to partner once again to present the 2026 annual Shakespeare Lecture with renowned actress Lucy Peacock; along with Laurette Dubé, Scientific Director of the McGill Centre for the Convergence of Health and Economics; Maiya Geddes, an FRSQ neurologist scientist and an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill University; and Paul Yachnin, BA'76, Tomlinson Professor of Shakespeare Studies at McGill.

In the face of social, environmental, and political upheaval, the speakers will bring Shakespeare's Macbeth forward as a lens through which to explore the convergence of art, science, technology, and human experience.

Map the System at UWaterloo and Beyond
Paul Heidebrecht discusses UWaterloo’s involvement in Map the System and how it has been integrated as both a curricular and co-curricular learning opportunity, and the impact on students. Gabriel Jabile presents his map, which won this year’s Map the System campus finals at Waterloo, and reflects on his experience competing at the Canadian finals at the Banff Systems Summit and the global finals at Oxford, where he was recognised with an award for excellence for the inclusion of underrepresented voices in his research.

The Waterloo Institute for Complexity (WICI) is  pleased to announce that we will cohost the premier International Conference on Artificial Life next year, 17-21 August 2026. The conference theme for ALIFE 2026 is "Living and Lifelike Complex Adaptive Systems".

The ALIFE meeting will be held jointly with the prestigious Applied Mathematics, Modeling and Computational Science (AMMCS) conference at Wilfrid Laurier University, as part of the AMMCS-ALIFE Congress.
