WICI 2020 Progress and Renewal Report
In 2021, WICI submitted a formal motion for renewal that was accepted and approved by University of Waterloo Senate on November 15, 2021, extending WICI's status as a senate-approved institute until November 30th, 2026. This report includes a snapshot of the past five years of activity and reviews our five-year plan through 2025.

This document provides a detailed overview of WICI including the evolution and progress of our institutional goals, priorities, and finances, a span of WICI-related scholarship and research, and a complete list of activities and events over the first 10 years of operation.
Annual Reports
Each year, the Waterloo Institute for Complexity and Innovation prepares an annual report on the scholarship, research, activities and events what WICI has engaged in. These reports have informed our renewal applications in 2015 and 2021.
The 2020 and 2021 Annual Reports (forthcoming) will detail more specifically the activities of the past two years as WICI prepared for Centre renewal.
Historical Annual Reports:
The University of Waterloo Senate Graduate & Research Council approved Waterloo Institute for Complexity & Innovation’s (WICI’s) renewal as a research centre in May 2015. This report describes WICI’s key achievements from 2010-2015, goals and priorities for 2016-2020, as well as changes made to WICI’s organizational structure and governance.
The the Waterloo Institute for Complexity & Innovation was approved by the University of Waterloo Senate in March 2010. This document provides details on the institute’s founding mandate, goals, and organizational structure.
