COVID-19 “red zone” updates to campus operations

Update for employees

  • Waterloo Region has moved into the “red zone” of the Province’s COVID-19 response framework, which means we need to make some changes to some facilities on campus.
  • If you are responsible for operational safety plans, you should plan and prepare for an eventual move to the lockdown category

Case tracking: one community member tests positive

On Sunday, November 22, 2020, Region of Waterloo public health informed us of one individual on our campus who tested positive for COVID-19.

The individual is in self-isolation and public health officials have been in touch all relevant close contacts.

If you have not been identified as a close contact of the individual, you should continue to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and seek testing if needed.

On Thursday, November 19, 2020, Region of Waterloo public health informed us of one individual on our campus who tested positive for COVID-19.

International student travel update

Update for employees

  • The University of Waterloo is now on the government of Canada’s list of designated learning institutes (DLIs) with approved COVID-19 readiness plans.
  • Although students should not travel unless necessary, this approval means that our international students may be able to enter Canada to study or work.
  • Please encourage all international students to submit or update their International Travel Plans and Quarantine Form.

Case tracking: COVID outbreak at Claudette Millar Hall includes four cases

Update November 17: Region of Waterloo Public Health and Emergency Services has declared the outbreak at Claudette Millar Hall officially over. It will be removed from their dashboard of active outbreaks.


Since Friday, November 5, 2020, Region of Waterloo public health informed us of a total of four people on our campus who have tested positive for COVID-19. We confirmed the following cases:
