Award description:
Two Awards, valued at a minimum of $150 each, will be awarded annually. One award will be given to a Master's student and one to a Doctoral student. Students must be or must have been registered full-time within the past calendar year (Winter, Spring, Fall) in a graduate program in the Department of English Language and Literature in the Faculty of Arts. The Department will solicit nominations for the best student essays submitted in a graduate course during the past calendar year from faculty members. Adjudication from among the nominations will be carried out by a departmental committee annually in February.

Value description:
The value of the Award will be determined by the income generated by the Fund each year. The goal is to provide two awards valued at a minimum of $150 each. The value and/or number of Awards may change from year to year.

Eligibility & selection criteria:

  • Applicants must be full-time graduate students who are or who have been registered, within the past calendar year, in an MA or PhD program in the Department of English Language and Literature in the Faculty of Arts.
  • Two awards are available, one each for MA and PhD students.
  • Prizes are awarded to the students who wrote the best essay on literature.
  • The Department of English Language and Literature will solicit nominations from faculty members. Faculty members may nominate the best essay submitted in graduate courses they taught during the past calendar year (Winter, Spring, Fall).
  • A committee of Faculty members in the Department of English Language and Literature will select the recipients annually in February.
