This year our EV Challenge Fall kick off will be on Saturday September 29th 2018. You can find all the info here: uwaterloo.ca/electric-vehicle-challenge/races/fall-kickoff.
The race will be held at the Waterloo Regional Emergency Services Training and Research Center (WRESTRC), located at Gate #3 at the Region landfill site on Erb Street in Waterloo (925 Erb St. W., Waterloo, ON N2J 3Z4). The gate will be opened at 8:30am – please follow the signs to get to the skid‐pad at the bottom of the hill.
Join us on October 1, 2016 for the Electric Vehicle Challenge Fall Kickoff. The Fall Kickoff gives teams an opportunity to show off the program to new students and ignite their build season. The Fall Kickoff will take place at the Waterloo Region Emergency Fire Training & Research Centre.
In response to a growing number of teams, a car limit has been enacted for the 2016 competition. This consists of two parts:
Both requirements must be satisfied. Teams will indicate which entries they are using on the registration form. Teams are expected that they will notify the planning team in advance if their plans change.
As had been alluded to in the What to Expect: 2016 EV Challenge news post, the EV Challenge team has officially decided to change the 12 V race battery from the Optima yellow top D34 to the Optima yellow top SC35DA. Teams that opt to use a different brand or model may do so provided its weight is less than 36.5 lb.
On October 3, 2015, the first fall event took place from the Waterloo Electric Vehicle (EV) Challenge team. The Fall Race had four teams in attendance, from invitations sent to teams in the region who had already competed at Waterloo.
After reviewing the 2015 EV Challenge, the planning team has put forward several proposed changes for the 2016 competition. These are provided to competitors in advance of the official rules to help plan for the upcoming year.
These changes are tentative, and while the planning team intend to make all of them, some may be missed (and some new changes may come up after this). Teams should always review the official rules to ensure they have not missed anything.
The results for the 2015 race have now been posted on our website. We have also posted graphs generated by the scoring software showing the progression of the cars over the race, and the best lap times of each car.
Bluevale Collegiate swept the race this year, taking both races and the Dennis Weishar Engineering Design Award. IE Weldon came a close runner-up in the 24 V race, being down only one lap (and leading Bluevale for a good portion of the race).
The Waterloo EV Challenge team is closely monitoring the potential for strike action at Ontario secondary schools. At this point in time, the race will proceed as initially planned on June 6, 2015.
