Maren Oelbermann and Pedro Gonzalez Hernandez hold a sign saying Thanks for your support, at the sign marking the start of the Dempster Highway.

Dr. Maren Oelbermann and her husband, Pedro Gonzalez Hernandez, cycled 770 km along the Dempster Highway to raise money to support the Grand River Cancer Centre, travelling from Dawson City, Yukon to Inuvik, Northwest Territories over an eight-day period in August.

Maren Oelbermann and Pedro Gonzalez Hernandez hold a cheque to the Grand River Cancer Centre for $7500 marking funds raised by the ride, giving to staff at the centre.

They raised $7500 for the Grand River Cancer Centre where Oelbermann had received treatment for breast cancer in 2019. They planned this fundraiser as a way to give back to the centre where Oelbermann received wonderful care and were pleased by the generosity of their community, exceeding their original goal of $5000.

Congratulations and thank you, Maren and Pedro!

Additional coverage of their trip was reported in an article in the Waterloo Chronicle newspaper.
