Farmer Bios
Kristine Hammel grew up on a dairy farm in southwestern Ontario. After completing her M.Sc. Organic Food Chain Management in Germany, she came back to Canada and started her market garden and CSA on the Bruce Peninsula. 2013 will be her 4th season. She farms with her husband, Thorsten, and baby son, Oskar.
Laurie Thomson has spent most of her life living and working on farms. Her professional experience has centred around small-scale horticulture with a focus on organic and sustainable growing. She completed her BSc. (Agr.) in Horticultural Science and Business at the University of Guelph, as well as a BEd. in Lethbridge, Alberta. She now lives in Grey County, with her husband, Craig, and baby son, Ewan.
Kristine and Laurie are part of the Grey Bruce Centre for Agroecology, a recent initiative and network of farmers/gardeners with academic backgrounds that have joined together to deliver on-farm research, training and consulting in the field of local food and small-scale diversified farming.
