Tony McAulay was born and raised in England. He studied art at college in the late sixties and early seventies and his influences then were Minimalism and Constructivism. In the late seventies and early eighties he developed interests in video and audio.
His return to painting in the mid-eighties were about media and receiving information, particularly, television. Since then he has dedicated his practice to painting, but more specifically drawing.
Tony had an extensive career in teaching, most specifically at Fanshawe College London Ontario until he retired from that institution in 2015.
The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
