This could be the place artist interventions

This Could be the Place is a six day public art event on the University of Waterloo campus structured around artist interventions/performances culminating in a symposium on the theme of precarious/immaterial labour and its relationship to contemporary Canadian art.

All performances and symposium panels are free of charge and open to the public.


PERFORMANCES: June 2-6

All performances begin daily at 12:00 pm, rain or shine, in or around the Arts Quad adjacent to the Dana Porter Library. Visitors are encouraged to meet at UWAG at 11:30 am daily. Guides will lead walking tours to each performance site.

SYMPOSIUM: June 7

All panels take place at UWAG, followed by a closing reception at 5:30 pm.

  • 8:30-9:00: Coffee and Opening Remarks
  • 9:00-10:30: Immaterial Labour, Performativity & Production of Culture with Jessica Wyman, Johanna Householder, Louise Liliefeldt, moderated by Bojana Videkanic
  • 10:45-1:00: Theories of Labour & Cultural Sphere with Greig de Peuter, Colin Campbell, Kathy Kiloh, Michael Maranda, moderated by Aleksandra Kaminska
  • 1:00-2:00: Lunch
  • 2:00-4:00: First Nations’ Contemporary Art, Precarious Labour & De-colonization with Wanda Nanibush, Cheryl l’Hirondelle, Suzanne Morrissette, Scott Benesiinaabandan, Franciso-Fernando Granados, moderated by Kole Kilibrada
  • 4:00-4:30: Performance by Adrian A. Stimson
  • 4:30-5:30: This Could Be The Place Artist Panel with Terrance Houle, Jessica Thompson, Lisa Birke, Johannes Zits, Adrian Blackwell, moderated by Ivan Jurakic
  • 5:30-7:00: Closing Reception

The event is co-organized and co-curated by Ivan Jurakic and Bojana Videkanic and is taking place in partnership with Cafka Biennial.
