Feryn King is a hoop dancer from Akwesasne First Nation who recently toured throughout Europe with Cirque de Soleil. We are grateful that she will share her talents and this thrilling form of Indigenous dance with our Waterloo community, in this social-distanced space.
The performance is at 2:00 pm in the Arts Quad (in front of the Dana Porter Library) and is free and open to all.
This is followed from 3:00-5:00 pm by a hoop-making and dance workshop in Alumni Hall, St Paul's University College. Space is limited so please contact Susan Roy (susan.roy@uwaterloo.ca) to reserve your spot at the workshop.
Sponsored by Waterloo Indigenous Student Centre, Department of History, Department of Fine Arts.
The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
