The annual Lumen festival, featuring installations by renowned local and international artists in public spaces throughout uptown Waterloo, is September 19, 2026 from 6 P.M. to 11 P.M.

This year's festival includes the work of current University of Waterloo Fine Arts Graduate student Sherri Hay as well as alum Paige Smith (MA '25). Sherri's work Winter, a multi-channel video work,is presented by the Student Art Innovation Lab (S.A.I.L.) while Paige has created Phantom Monuments of Waterloo, a participatory art installation that reanimates archival images of the city through vivid colourization and imagination. Both can be seen around the Visitor Information Centre in Waterloo Park.
