Professor Emeritus Art Green receives an honorary doctorate

On May 16, 2016 Art Green received an honorary doctorate of fine art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in recognition of his achievements as a member of the artists’ group called the Hairy Who.

Art and the other founders of the collective (artists James Falconer, Gladys Nilsson, Jim Nutt, Suellen Rocca and Karl Wirsum) all graduated from SAIC in the 1960s. Fifty years ago, in 1966, the first Hairy Who exhibition was a brash and humorous departure from the typical sober displays.  The group's approach and work continues to influence  younger artists.
