It is with great sadness that we announce that Serena Lawrence (BA Fine Arts Honours 2012) passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hamilton on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. Serena was an exemplary student, a lovely person and a talented artist, but most importantly she was very brave as she battled pulmonary arterial hypertension. After Serena was diagnosed with this condition, she became a tireless advocate for young people who had PH. She became a senior managing columns editor for BioNews Services, and in her role supported many in various disease and disorder communities. The Fine Arts faculty, Serena’s colleagues from her 2012 Fine Arts graduating class, and the larger UW community will miss her greatly.
You can read about Serena's battle with Pulmonary Hypertension at her blog.
Serena's funeral service will be held at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467 on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 12:00 noon. Reception to follow. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association of Canada would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
