SculptureNOW brings together early and mid-career Canadian artists representing a range of approaches to the expanded field of sculpture. Organized in tag-team panels with a keynote speaker, this three-day symposium will explore sculptural and installation-based practices by comparing and contrasting various methodologies and approaches to subject matter: from representational to readymade, material to conceptual.

Kelly Mark has always had an intense preoccupation with the differing shades of pathos and humour found in everyday life. Hidden in the repetitive mundane tasks, routines and rituals of contemporary culture, she finds startling moments of poetic individuation. This “imprint of the individual,” although subtle and frequently paradoxical, is something she repeatedly returns to. Through her ‘will to order’ and her frequently inane sense of humour, her objective is the investigation, documentation and validation of these singular ‘marked’ and ‘unmarked’ moments of our lives. She is represented by Diaz Contemporary and lives in Toronto.
Roula Partheniou’s practice explores how altering or remaking a familiar object can shift our perception and perspective. She has exhibited throughout Canada and internationally and her work is held in numerous collections, including the National Gallery of Canada Library and Archives, and the corporate and institutional collections of Munich Re, BMO, TD Bank and the University of Toronto. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Guelph in 2001 and currently lives and works in Toronto. She is represented by Mkg127, Toronto.
