The Water Institute’s World Water Day 2026 conference brought together students, researchers, and community members to explore issues of water equity, environmental justice, and sustainability through keynote presentations, research showcases, and panel discussions. The event highlighted the social impacts of water poverty and the importance of collaborative, equity-focused approaches to addressing global and local water challenges.

We are thrilled to share that Lukas Weissenberger, a former Global Research Intern at the GoHelP lab, has published his scoping review, "The Intersection of Water Vending and Gender," in Water Security. 

Guided by Professor Susan Elliott, Lukas conducted a scoping review on the intersection of water vending and gender during his time at the lab. The study uncovers how cultural, social, and economic factors influence water vending practices and their impact on gender equality. 

Congratulations to Tara Chen , PhD Candidate and Climate-Health Fellow, who received the Early Career Excellence Award from ASPHER at their Deans’ and Directors’ Retreat in Portugal.  Discover more about Tara's significant contributions to integrating climate-health competencies into public health education and her perspectives on the future of public health shared at the "Next Generation" Panel in Porto.

In 2020, Wellbeing, Space and Society was launched by Susan Elliott and Jamie Pearce to provide a platform for groundbreaking research on wellbeing. The journal recently reached a major milestone, earning its first Impact Factor of 2.4 and securing strong rankings in both the Public Health and Geography categories. Susan Elliott is Co-Editor in Chief of a new journal called Wellbeing, Space & Society which focuses on human health and the built environment.

The first ever list of Canadian Women Leaders in Global Health has been published by the Canadian Society for International Health. A huge congratulations to Dr.

Professor Susan Elliott is one of two members of the University of Waterloo to receive funding for the prestigious new Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarships.  

Professor Susan Elliott and two members of the GoHelP lab (Jenna Dixon and Elijah Bisung) travelled to Uganda Christian University to conduct the inaugural PROLIFIC workshop with students from the Save the Mothers Masters in Public Health Leadership program. The workshop aims to build capacity in low-to-middle income countries by guiding students through how to get their research published.
