Herzlichen Glückwunsch to Katarina (Kei) Sremcevic, winner of the 2020 Dyck Award!

This scholarship was established by the late J.W. Dyck, the founder of the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies. Valued at $1,000, it is awarded to the student with the highest overall average entering the second or third year of a German and/or Russian/Slavic program.

Kei is in her second year of a Psychology major and a German minor. Growing up bilingual, she is mostly interested in the development of language. Kei values the welcoming nature of the GSS department: “The size really makes making acquaintances and friends easy, and I feel like I can come to the professors without any worry on my part, and the courses are really engaging.”

Receiving the award gave her a good boost to keep on learning and pushing forward. Kei would like to thank the department for the German courses that helped her improve her German a lot in a short time. After her bachelor’s, Kei plans on doing her master’s in Germany and live there for a while: “I’d love to work in a clinic or children’s hospital, and I’d also love to try and ski all over Europe!”
