The Biman family has established this gradate scholarship to honour the memory of their son and brother Aapoolcoyuz Biman BASc. 1991. A graduate of Electrical and Computer Engineering with an Option in Management Sciences; Aapool went on to complete his Master's in Science in Electrical Engineering at Queen's University where he also completed postgraduate work. While at Queen's, he won many teaching awards and was President of the Graduate Student Society. In 1997 Aapool joined Gennum Corporation in Burlington where he was hired as a designer and later was promoted to Senior Manager with the High Speed Video Analog Design Group in the Video Products Division. He took extra time to mentor and teach students in engineering and computer programs from various universities. Aapool loved the struggle and thrill of exploration and discovery. He had clarity of thought and a gift for teaching. He enjoyed motivating and encouraging others to exceed themselves and aim for excellence. Ever the optimist, he sought and brought out the best in others. His attention to detail and his pursuit of the understanding of how and why imbued his day  to day work, in designing, creating, drawing, cycling or playing. Above all, he valued the pursuit of knowledge and education.

One scholarship valued at $5,000 will be awarded in the Faculty of Engineering to graduate students in the Departments of Electrical & Computer Engineering or Management Sciences in conjunction with matching government programs such as the Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS) or the Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarships in Science and Technology (QEII-GSST). It could also be used as a top-up for the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council CGS or PGS Scholarships. If this is not feasible, the scholarships will be valued and awarded at $5,000 each.

The scholarship selection will be made by the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies, Faculty of Engineering and International Agreements in the Faculty of Engineering
