A scholarship, valued at $1,500, will be awarded annually to a graduate student registered full time in a master's program in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering who persevered to return to school after a period of time away (e.g. five years) from academics. Interested students should submit an application by October 1 to the Graduate Funding Coordinator in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering. Selection will be based on academic excellence (minimum 80% cumulative average or equivalent in current or previously attended postsecondary program) combined with a personal statement describing their experience and perseverance to return to full-time studies. This fund is made possible by a donation from Ruth A. Sprenger in honour of her husband, C.J. Dick Sprenger who began his university studies as a mature student and went on to graduate from the University of Waterloo in 1969 with a MA Sc. in Management Sciences.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
