Two Awards, valued at a minimum of $150 each, will be awarded annually. One award will be given to a Master's student and one to a Doctoral student. Students must be or must have been registered full time within the past calendar year (Winter, Spring, Fall) in a graduate program in the Department of English Language and Literature in the Faculty of Arts. The Department will solicit nominations for the best student essays submitted in a graduate course during the past calendar year from faculty members. Adjudication from among the nominations will be carried out by a departmental committee annually in February.
The value of the Award will be determined by the income generated by the Fund each year. The goal is to provide two awards valued at a minimum of $150 each. The value and/or number of Awards may change from year to year.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
