Award description: 

The scholarship, valued at $5000 will be awarded annually to a doctoral student registered full time in the Department of Chemical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Waterloo. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of scholastic excellence (minimum 80% average) and studies that have an emphasis on research areas relating to energy and/or environment. Preference will be given to a student who holds an Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) or Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology (QEII-GSST) that requires a matching component. If the match becomes unavailable or a suitable recipient cannot be found, the funds will be paid out as a regular graduate scholarship. This scholarship has been established by Professor Flora Ng and Professor Garry Rempel.

Eligibility & selection criteria: 
  • Full-time graduate students registered in the Doctoral program in the department of Chemical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering.
  • Selection to be based on scholastic excellence (minimum 80% average) and studies that have an emphasis on research areas relating to energy and/or environment.
  • The goal is that this scholarship be given in conjunction with major external awards that require a matching component. For example, the funds available could be matched 2:1 by the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS)  or Queen Elizaveth II Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology (QEII-GSST) programs as long as these program are in effect.
  • If the match becomes unavailable or a suitable recipient cannot be found, the funds will be paid out as a regular graduate scholarship. The Department of Chemical Engineering will identify candidates and select recipients annually.
