This award has been established by family and friends in honour of Frederick W. Bent (October 30, 1968 - September 29, 2003) to provide assistance to students enrolled in the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science programs. Fred graduated with honours in 1994, with a Master's in Mathematics, Computer Science. He went on to become a successful executive for a local firm before his untimely death. He will always be remembered for his quick and dry wit, his sense of honour, his kindness and selfless generosity.

Value description: 

Varies up to a maximum of $5,000 for 1 full award paid over 3 academic terms.

Eligibility & selection criteria: 

This scholarship will be paid as the institutional matching funds for a recipient of an Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) or Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science & Technology (QEII-GSST) in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science. 

The selection will be made by the Associate Chair/Graduate Officer of Computer Science. 

Preference will be given to students from the Golden Triangle area.
