One annual award will be given to a graduate student in September of each year; the amount will depend on investment income. The graduate student must be enrolled in the groundwater program in the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences. The student must have chosen to pursue a research topic concerning groundwater in a developing country or on the topic of regional hydrogeology in Canada.
No application is necessary; the Award Selection Committee will determine eligibility in consultation with professors within the department.
This scholarship was founded in 1990 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Dr. Robert Farvolden's arrival at the University of Waterloo and his initiation of the groundwater research program. The endowment has been established from the proceeds of a short course on Dense Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids organized by a group including graduate students and professors in the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences.
Varies.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
