Dear Warriors,
Last weekend students from across the region, including those from Wilfrid Laurier University and Waterloo, participated in illegal gatherings near our Waterloo campus that resulted in vandalism to the city. These gatherings were in flagrant violation of Ontario’s public health measures and extremely disrespectful to our host community.
Waterloo Regional Police Service are reviewing video footage to identify anyone who engaged in illegal activities. If the police identify you in the videos and share this information with us, you will face discipline that could include suspension or expulsion from the University, may face fines for violating the Reopening Ontario Act, and could face criminal charges related to vandalism.
Even if you are vaccinated, you need to stay smart and follow public health guidelines. COVID-19 and its variants still pose an enormous risk to our community. As students, you must take your responsibility as a member of this community seriously. Reckless behaviour like large parties and street gatherings will not be tolerated as it is putting the most vulnerable in our community at risk and tarnishing the reputation of students and our university.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
