The University of Waterloo is thrilled to announce that Anita Lazurko, PhD Candidate in Social Ecological Sustainability in the School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability (SERS) has been chosen as one of Canada's Trudeau Scholars for 2020.
Jeff Casello, Associate Vice-President, Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs, comments on Anita's successful award: "We are exceptionally pleased, and proud of Anita. Her combination of leadership, intellectual curiosity and academic gifts position her to become a globally-leading researcher and scholar in climate change and water resource management. Already, Anita has contributed substantially around the world and has engaged local communities. She recognizes that knowledge transfer and the utilization of innovative methods to engage these communities is necessary, to ensure water sustainability in a time of rapid change. We are excited to support her, along with the Trudeau Foundation, as she continues her impactful research on water resource sustainability."

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
