On Tuesday, May 14 Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA) hosted the first PhD Candidacy Workshop and Celebration in the Board and Senate room (NH 3407).
This event was exclusively for PhD candidates who had recently passed their comprehensive examinations or achieved candidacy in their program. Attendees were greeted with a small gift that was a token of their big accomplishment: a “PhD Candidate” coffee mug.
The event kicked off with a welcome and introductions by Jeff Casello, associate vice-president, GSPA followed by an inspiring keynote talk by Kirsten Muller, assistant vice-president, GSPA. The workshop portion of this event covered a range of important topics students will need in the next phase of their studies: managing large writing projects, productive writing practices, and best practices with supervisors and committees. Following the workshop, attendees were invited to stay for a networking reception with hors d’oeuvres to celebrate this huge milestone.
