The University of Waterloo has launched a new website for updates related to the Coronavirus. Ambassador of Canada to Brazil, H.E. Jennifer May, and trade commissioners from Global Affairs Canada–Waterloo Office, Sonia Hukil, and Syed Sameer, met with University of Waterloo officials for discussions on Canada-Brazil relations in higher education.

International Relations Manager, Ishari Waduwara-Jayabahu recently visited the High Commission of Canada to Sri Lanka and the Maldives and met with the High Commissioner, David McKinnon and other officials. Discussions focused on exploring new partnerships with academic institutions and industries in the region. Sharing open resources, co-op placements with companies in Sri Lanka and creating programs to empower women, were among several topics raised during the meeting.

Douglas Peers, Professor of History and Ishari Waduwara-Jayabahu, International Relations Manager met with Canada's High Commissioner to India, Nadir Patel, while participating in a networking dinner in Delhi. The reception was organized by the Office of the High Commissioner, for delegations attending the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute’s VC Summit. Peers and Waduwara-Jayabahu are representing the University of Waterloo, on an outbound mission to India, aimed at strengthening academic collaborations and partnerships in that region.

An outbound delegation from the University of Waterloo, comprising Douglas Peers, Professor of History and former Dean at the Faculty of Arts, and Ishari Waduwara-Jayabahu, International Relations Manager, with responsibility for India, is in Delhi. They attended a two-day Vice Chancellor’s summit “Dynamics of Higher Education in India and Canada: Envisaging Greater Collaborations: Opportunities to Network” organized by the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, aimed at providing key opportunities to create institutional linkages.

A Waterloo International delegation, led by Ian Rowlands, Associate Vice-President, International, is in China and met with Vice-President of Soochow University, Liu Biao and representatives from their international office. Both groups shared their vision on internationalization and providing global experiences and experiential learning to students, in a highly globalized world.

Hundreds of high school students attended the International Education Week Keynote presented by Alexandre Trudeau, who addressed the value of multilingualism and intercultural understanding in our globalized world today. Students and other attendees enjoyed Mr. Trudeau’s talk and engaged in the panel discussion, featuring the many different perspectives that followed.

On Thursday, November 21, 2019, Waterloo International was pleased to host Thomas E. Schultze, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Toronto and Lara Brödenfeld, Vice Consul; Cultural, Press and Economic Affairs; German Consulate General Toronto. The Consul General and Vice Consul were here to familiarize themselves with Waterloo’s extensive campus, our programs and faculties, to promote German language, and to deliver welcome remarks during the International Education Week (IEW) keynote by Alexandre Trudeau.

Suping Zhao, International Relations Manager and Special Advisor-China, on an outbound delegation visit to China, met with representatives from several universities, which have active academic agreements or partnerships with the University of Waterloo. These institutions include: Shanghai Jiao Tong University, East China University of Science and Technology, and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Talks focused on reviewing existing collaborations and strategies for advancing shared goals for internationalization.
