Alumni and community member access
Alumni: You must have an active alumni WatCard to access resources off campus. For more information on how to get one, visit the alumni WatCard page. You can register your WatCard using the online registration form or in person at the Library's Circulation desk.
Community members: Adults residing within Ontario may apply for a library card at the Circulation desk free of charge. To get a borrower card you must present proof of residency showing your name and address.
Your alumni WatCard or community borrower card provides you with borrowing privileges assigned to your status for books available at the TriUniversity Group of libraries (University of Waterloo, University of Guelph, and Wilfrid Laurier University). To find books search the library catalogue.
Almost all the library-subscribed electronic resources provide access to walk-in users, such as community members, while in the Library. Community members cannot access library-subscribed electronic resources from home.
We’re consistently working with vendors to expand access to electronic resources to alumni users. Find a list of the select electronic resources available, on the alumni electronic resources page.
Open Access resources
Open Access resources are accessible to anyone with access to the Internet. The Directory of Open Access Journals is a great starting place for finding Open Access material.
UWSpace, the University of Waterloo institutional repository, contains free, full text, scholarly journal articles and theses. Many universities have Open Access institutional repositories; to find a list of Canadian institutional repositories on the Canadian Association of Research Libraries web site.
