You may have heard of GIS, but what exactly is it, and more importantly, how can you use it in your own research and academic work?

This introductory workshop presents the basic concepts of GIS and will teach you the skills you need to find geospatial data, map it, and discover new dimensions of information.

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

Tuesday, November 19, 2019 — 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM EST

Ever wanted to try Open Source GIS but didn’t know where to start?

This workshop builds on “Getting Started with ArcGIS” (a recommended prerequisite for those with no previous GIS experience but isn’t absolutely necessary.) It will go through the ins and outs of QGIS and also cover other alternative Open Source GIS platforms.

This workshop introduces users to a different environment to create maps with GIS.
By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

Wednesday, November 20, 2019 — 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM EST

This workshop is a primer for working with computational hydrology software and, as such, assumes a good grounding in most GIS concepts of spatial and raster analysis. The tutorial is designed to get you comfortable with HEC RAS's specific requirements for creating a dynamic flood simulation.

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

Thursday, November 21, 2019 — 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM EST

Machine Learning is all over the news in the tech world. How can GIS users make use of this technology for their research and work?

This workshop focuses in on the GIS application of Machine Learning, including for raster analysis and how deep learning can aid in extracting vector features from imagery. GIS users and enthusiasts are invited to join us in learning about this exciting new application of data science.

By the end of this workshop, you will:
