Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a multi-disciplinary tool that is widely used across the architecture industry. Attend this 15-minute Speed Run Session to learn why every map you’ve ever seen is wrong! This presentation and question & answer session will discuss the importance of geographic co-ordinate systems and map projection systems, and how they impact the messages conveyed through maps.

By the end of this workshop, participants will understand:

  • What geographic co-ordinate systems and map projections are
  • Current map projection industry standards
  • How to choose the appropriate map projection for your project

The GIS Speed Run Sessions are drop-in sessions open to all architecture students; come with an interest in learning more about GIS!

If you have accommodation requests or questions, reach out to Katie Brightwell (kbrightwell@uwaterloo.ca) with your needs.

Facilitator

Katie Brightwell is the Library Associate, Information Services & Resources at the Musagetes Architecture Library.
