Course selection for direct admits
Students admitted directly into one of the business programs or plans will automatically be enrolled into the correct courses, once you complete your acceptance documents. There should be no need to adjust your schedule.
Course selection for students wishing to transfer for 2A
Students wishing to transfer into one of the business programs or plans from any other Faculty of Mathematics plan should ensure that they have completed the required first year courses. These courses are summarized below. Please note that it is not possible to transfer into Mathematics/Chartered Professional Accountancy after year 1.
All plans require students to complete the following math courses:
- Mathematics (MATH) - 135/145 Algebra
- MATH 136/146 - Linear Algebra 1
- MATH 137/147 - Calculus 1
- MATH 138/148 - Calculus 2
- 2 Computer Science (CS) core courses (usually CS 115/135 and CS 116/136)
Double degree:
Admission to the double degree program is direct-entry. The double degree program is a restricted-enrolment plan and Year 2 transfer to the program is not possible
Mathematics/Business Administration single degree or Information Technology Management:
Students must complete:
- a communication course and three of the following courses.
- Accounting and Financial Management (AFM) 101 - Introduction to Financial Accounting (recommended)
- AFM 102 - Introduction to Managerial Accounting
- BUS 111W - Introduction to Business Organization
- BUS 121W - Functional Areas of the Organization
- ECON 101 - Introduction to Microeconomics
- ECON 102 - Introduction to Macroeconomics
Applicants must have a 65% overall average to be admitted to the Math/Business Administration single degree plan, a 65% overall average to be admitted to the Information Technology Management plan.
Mathematics/Financial Analysis and Risk Management:
Students must complete:
- a communication course and at least two of the following courses
- AFM 101 - Introduction to Financial Accounting (recommended)
- AFM 102 - Introduction to Managerial Accounting
- ECON 101 - Introduction to Microeconomics
- ECON 102 - Introducation to Macroeconomics
- COMM 101 - Introduction to Financial Markets (recommended)
- AFM 131 - Introduction to Business in North America
Applicants must have a 75% overall average to be admitted to the Mathematics/Financial Analysis and Risk Management plan.

Mathematical Economics
Students should complete the following in first year:
- a communication course and
- ECON 101 - Introduction to Microeconomics
- ECON 102 - Introduction to Macroeconomics
- one of ECON 201 and/or ECON 202 is recommended, but not required.
Applicants must have a 75% ECON average to be admitted.
Mathematical Optimization(MO)
Students only need to complete 10 courses, including the math core courses (above) and a communication course in order to transfer into MO. Generally, any student in good standing in the faculty will be admitted.
