CFA Institute Recognition for FARM Program

Thursday, September 22, 2016

The Faculty of Mathematics is pleased to announce that the University of Waterloo’s Bachelor of Mathematics in Financial Analysis and Risk Management (FARM) Program (Finance Specialization) has been recognized by the CFA Institute University Recognition Program. The recognition acknowledges that the FARM program incorporates at least 70% of the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Program Candidate Body of Knowledge, including the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct. With exceptionally strong quantitative background and equally robust business component, FARM program has become a member of a select group of universities and colleges recognized by the CFA Institute.

This recognition also signals to students and employers that the FARM program at Waterloo is closely tied to CFA Institute practice, and is well-suited to preparing for CFA examinations. FARM program is also now eligible to receive a limited number of student scholarships for the CFA Program through CFA Program Awareness Scholarships.

The FARM program joins two other University of Waterloo programs that have been recognized by the CFA Institute: the Bachelor of Accounting and Financial Management Program (BAFM) and Bachelor of Computing and Financial Management Program (BCFM).

The FARM program provides students with the opportunity to earn a degree that will be their greatest asset. This Bachelor of Mathematics degree combines courses in math, statistics and computer science with corporate finance, asset pricing, economics and other business-related courses. FARM students gain a thorough grounding in financial analysis or risk management, which are ideal preparation for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation or the Professional Risk Management (PRM) designation.

Congratulations to the faculty and students of the FARM program with this new and exciting milestone.
