Yee Hong’s Culture Change Coalition (CCC) members gathered together for an afternoon of discussion as they began the transition to Discovery, the second phase of Appreciative Inquiry process. In Discovery, many stories of positive experiences will be collected to determine the core factors that give life to Yee Hong.

In small groups, members first created images that represented Yee Hong’s unique character. Yee Hong was described as a diamond by some members for its quality care that involves teamwork among staff, family members, residents and community members. Other members described Yee Hong as a person holding a bouquet of balloons or flying a kite because they saw Yee Hong as a place rich in happiness and energy.

The members also began brainstorming some ideas for the content of Discovery. Drawing from examples of enjoyable moments, they learned to examine situations appreciatively to look for reasons contributing to their positive experiences. Group members reflected that harmony, satisfaction and quality of life are all high for all parties in Yee Hong, but that enhancing these characteristics even further will be a constant goal throughout the rest of the Culture Change process at Yee Hong.

Yee Hong’s CCC members look forward to embarking on the journey of Discovery. If you have any positive stories related to your experience in Yee Hong, please share with us! Contact Sacha Geer or Jessica Luh Kim!
