Sloan research fellowship awarded to Mathematics professor

A University of Waterloo mathematics professor is one of 125 early career Canadian and U.S. researchers selected to receive a 2023 Sloan Research Fellowship.

Sophie Spirkle, an assistant professor of Combinatorics and Optimization, has received the prestigious fellowship from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. She is one of 17 Waterloo faculty members who have received the fellowship since the first Sloan Research Fellowships were awarded in 1955.

The fellowships honour researchers whose creativity, innovation, and research accomplishments make them stand out as the next generation of leaders, according to a news release published by the the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
