Biography

Carol graduated in 1979 from the University of Waterloo, School of Optometry. After a year of practice in London (ON), inspired by her aunt’s nursing work in Africa, she accepted an appointment in Nigeria as lecturer at the University of Benin, School of Optometry. Upon return to Canada, she founded a successful Optometry clinic in Kitchener-Waterloo (now Insight Eye Care) and supervised students in the UW Optometry Clinic.

Since Nigeria, Carol has volunteered in numerous international and domestic projects providing eye care to under-serviced populations. She served as a UW Senate alumni member for two consecutive 4-year terms and was the Optometry representative on the Waterloo-Wellington Local Health Integration Network eye-care committee for a number of years.

During her four decades of professional practice, the focus of Carol’s volunteer work has been promoting health and healing, for which she has received community awards. Carol is currently Community chair of the Seeing Beyond 2020 campaign to create the Waterloo Eye Institute at the UW School of Optometry.
