The University of Waterloo Staff Association (UWSA) is happy to announce an opportunity for UWSA members to discuss and explore issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

With increasing awareness of theses issues at Waterloo, in our community, and globally, there is recognition that UWSA members could benefit from opportunities for learning/discussion. Facilitating these discussions, may also help support members equity, inclusion, and belonging work in their various roles at Waterloo and in the community.

Many of us are busier and more isolated than ever, so we’re holding this session as an opportunity for you to say hello, find out more about the UWSA, and ask any questions about your working life at UW. Register now for the UWSA Drop-In Session to add it to your calendar, and then drop in if you feel like it. There’s no commitment – if you’re busy and you don’t make it, that’s fine! This month's Area Rep meeting welcomes Dr. Feridun Hamdullaphur, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Waterloo to pay tribute to his time serving at UWaterloo. UWSA Area Reps have enjoyed a close relationship with this President over the years, welcoming him to many meetings and appreciating his approachable style. Now it's time to say goodbye with one last Q&A. 

We've added an Area Rep meeting to this year's calendar in order to welcome Vivek Goel, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Waterloo as of July 1, 2021. There will be time for a Q&A. If you would like to submit your questions ahead of the meeting, please send them to Chair Wendy de Gomez.

What are your questions about COVID-19 vaccines? Send them to us, and then join us September 28 from 12:00 to 1:00 (or 1:30 if we need the time) to hear your questions answered.

We’ve heard from our members that they have vaccine-related questions. With so much information - and misinformation - out there, we’re grateful that Dr. Kelly Grindrod has agreed to help answer these questions.

Join us online and meet your candidates for the 2021 UWSA Election.

Election polls open on October 12 and close on October 21. 

As discussed at the last Area Reps meeting, the UWSA Board of Directors will be bringing an updated By-law to the Annual General Meeting for Member approval.

We’ve developed the By-law over several months under the guidance of Sandra Hanmer, a governance expert from Capacity Canada. Sandra has agreed to give a presentation at this Information Session to help make sure our Memebrs are informed & aware of the changes being proposed and the reasoning behind them.

UWSA Members received an Outlook invitation to attend this session.

Our speaker for the Nov 11 (Remembrance Day) meeting will be Nancy Reeves, Interim Director of Equity. She will be speaking on the Trauma of War and its implications for Social Work Education and practice.
