Brent Matheson began his career in biology and holds a Bachelor of Science and a Masters of Science in microbiology. As his interests shifted towards the business world he went back to university to complete a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and subsequently a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter. He holds a Derivatives Market Specialist (DMS) designation through the Canadian Securities Institute.
Prior to coming to the University of Waterloo, Brent held several positions in the financial industry at Manulife, Sunlife/Clarica and Deloite. As well, Brent taught at Wilfrid Laurier University for several years part-time prior to coming to Waterloo.
Brent teaches Corporate Finance 1 (ACTSC 371) and Financial Statement Analysis (COMM 421). Previously, he has taught classes including ones on financial derivatives, investments and Corporate Finance. As the Mathematics/Financial Analysis and Risk Management (FARM) Co-Director at Waterloo he has been able to interact with some of the finest students in the faculty.
