Drop-in tutoring

Free drop-in tutoring is available each term on the main University of Waterloo campus for a variety of courses. Students enrolled in any of the courses listed may attend to get academic support.

Drop-in tutoring in Residence

Drop by to get help with a specific question, find a quiet place to study, or just get extra practice. 

Tutors are upper-year undergraduate or graduate students from the associated faculties.

Any student enrolled in one of the listed courses.

Math Tutorial Centre

We strive to help students make the transition to university-level mathematics.

Tutors are high-performing, enthusiastic, and eager undergraduate and graduate math students. They provide assistance on an individual basis to students in first and second-year math core courses.

Bring your course notes and your questions as they will give tips but will not solve problems FOR you. You can also use the space to study independently.

Computer Science Consulting Centre

If you are taking first- or second-year CS courses and need some help, you can meet with an Instructional Support Assistant (ISA) or Instructional Apprentice (IA).

Bring your course notes and expect to get hints rather than solutions.

Engineering Evening Help Sessions

Waterloo Engineering Endowment Fund (WEEF) TAs provide assistance for general first-year engineering courses (e.g. math, physics, chemistry, electric circuits) on an individual or group basis on Monday to Thursday, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

TAs will give hints but will not solve for you. Bring your course notes and questions!

Waterloo Engineering Endowment Fund (WEEF) TA Office Hours

WEEF TAs provide assistance on an individual basis or group setting (depend on needs) to first year engineering students in specified courses according to TA’s office hours posted at their doors in E2-1309 and E2-1318.

Any students enrolled in a course supported by WEEF TAs.

Engineering Exam Help Sessions

During midterm week and final exam weeks, help sessions are held according to schedules posted on the doors of the WEEF lab, WEEF TA offices, and Multimedia Lab (E2-1310, E2-1309, E2-1318, CPH-1346).

School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) Academic Coaching Centre

The centre is staffed by upper-year SAF students who can provide peer tutoring in course work and offer insightful information based on their own experiences in the course(s).

SAF students enrolled in the listed first- and second-year courses.

Economics Undergraduate Study Clinic

A well trained teaching assistant will answer your questions on the board so that everyone sitting in the room can benefit. If you are hesitant to ask questions in class, the clinic is a good alternative.

Supported Learning Groups (SLG)

Supported learning groups are free study sessions intended to give students a chance to study with classmates for some particularly challenging courses. 

The Student Success Office has teamed up with professors, staff and academic faculties to create this new program at Waterloo.

SLG sessions focus on modeling learning strategies on "how to learn", while being integrated with the "what to learn".
