Wellness
Beginning your graduate degree can be stressful for a variety of reasons—it's a time when you're meeting new people, adjusting to campus life, and for many of you, settling into a new city. Here are some of the resources available to support you through these transitions.
- Counselling Services
Counselling Services provides a secure, supportive environment for all students. Services include individual appointments, seminars (including pre-recorded sessions), group therapy and workshops, and online resources. - Grad Student Community and Conversation Circle
This group offers a safe and confidential space to talk about stressors in graduate school and life, including relationships, wellness, worries about academic competence, loneliness, stress management, and emotional resilience. - Athletics and Recreation
Warrior Recreation offers many opportunities for you to stay active, including aquatics, ice activities, racquet sports, 2,500 drop-in fitness, wellness classes, and more. You can also check out Move Your Mind—a peer-to-peer program designed to help you identify ways that you like to move.
Academic Accommodations
AccessAbility Services offers a range of accommodation supports and services, including alternative testing formats, support for missed course assignments, and more.
If you have a permanent, temporary, or suspected disability, apply for your accommodations before the start of term. Accommodation consultants at AccessAbility Services will work with you, your instructors, and others to develop an accommodations plan tailored to your needs and ensure that it is successfully implemented. Accessability services can support you.
Health and Dental Plan
Full-time and part-time graduate students are automatically covered by the GSA Health & Dental Plan, including eligible international students. Health Plan allows you to access a variety of health professionals and receive coverage for prescription drugs, vaccinations, diagnostic services, and medical equipment. Your plan also extends to vision coverage, travel coverage, dental care, and a new mental health and wellness support service, Empower Me.
Please note: During the change-of-coverage period at the beginning of the term, you'll have an opportunity to opt-out of the plan (if you’re already covered by an equivalent health plan) or enrol your spouse/dependent children. Graduate co-op students who wish to self-enrol may also do so during this period.
