An award, valued at $500, is presented annually to a third- or fourth-year student majoring in Women’s Studies (Faculty of Arts). Interested candidates may submit a paper they have written between January 1 to December 31, 2018 for a Women’s Studies course. Instructors of Women’s Studies courses may also nominate a student who has submitted an outstanding paper in the course they are teaching.
This award has been established to honour the first Co-ordinator of Women’s Studies, Dr. Sandra Burt.
Deadline for submission form and paper is February 1, 2019.
Submitted paper should show:
- Excellent research, analytical and writing skills;
- Insight, be thoughtful and provocative, and should serve to inspire our thinking on a Women’s Studies related issue;
- Suitability of topic to the interdisciplinary nature of Women’s Studies; and
- Creativity and originality.
Students who have graduated but were in their 3rd or 4th year when the paper was written are also eligible.
A completed copy of this submission form must be emailed to the Women’s Studies Undergraduate Coordinator, Tawnessa Carter, firstname.lastname@example.org, along with a copy of the paper being nominated. Please write Sandra Burt Essay Submission in the subject line of the email.
Only one assignment per student will be accepted. Assignments can be edited versions of the original paper.
All identifying information should be removed from the paper as it will be reviewed anonymously.
If a course instructor wishes to nominate a student, they should:
email Tawnessa Carter with the name of the student being nominated;
inform the student to let them know that they has been nominated and
inform the student it is up to them to email a copy of the paper to email@example.com if they wish to have it considered for the award.
