Join us on Wednesday, March 8th from 5:00 to 7:00pm for the 2023 Silver Medal Event. Our distinguished guest speaker this year is Prof. Lindsay Bell of the Department of Anthropology at Western University who will be presenting a lecture entitled “Under Pressure: Diamonds and Everyday Life in a Northern Town”. This event will take place in HH 1102 with a reception to follow in HH 373.

The Department of Anthropology is pleased to announce that Carey Matthews and Yingjia Wang are the recipients of this year’s Sally Weaver Award.

Dr. Alexis Dolphin (Anthropology) and Dr. Andrew Doxey (Biology) are recipients of the 2022 Waterloo Interdisciplinary Trailblazer Fund.

Their project is titled "Reconstructing the origins and evolution of infectious diseases through ancient DNA metagenomics" 

Congratulations Karen Rueb (graduate) and Aparajita Bhattacharya (undergraduate) on receiving the Tri-Agency Canada Graduate Scholarships Master's (SSHRC).

Each year, the department of anthropology recognizes one or two outstanding and well-rounded students who have shown exceptional commitment to the department and the University of Waterloo as a whole.

Congratulations to Water Institute member Craig Janes, professor and director of the School of Public Health Sciences, along with WI colleague Jennifer Liu, professor and chair of the Department of Anthropology, and their research team, who have been awarded funding through a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Project Grant

A new study on primate behaviour sheds light on a previously little-known life stage of male mantled howler monkeys, adding to our knowledge of lone male behavioural ecology.
