UW Anthropologists receive SSHRC Insight award

Russell Adams, Alexis Dolphin (both from the Department of Anthropology), and Chris Yakymchuk (Earth Sciences) have been awarded a 2018 SSHRC Insight grant for their research tracing anthropogenic pollution at a 5000-year-old industrialized landscape in southern Jordan.

Professor Götz Hoeppe and 15 students from his Anthropology of Science class (ANTH 430) witnessed science in action on a field trip to the Waterloo Pharmacy in February. Professor Hoeppe, like other faculty members in the Anthropology department, sees great value in providing experiential learning opportunities to students.

We are most proud to announce that Douglas Stenton, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Anthropology, was among the 125 appointees to the Order of Canada on December 29th, 2017, cited “for his enduring contributions to the preservation of Canada’s northern heritage".

Götz Hoeppe, Associate Professor of Anthropology, was awarded the 2017 Melvin Pollner Prize in Ethnomethodology for his article “Working Data Together: The Accountability and Reflexivity of Digital Astronomical Practice”, which appeared in the journal Social Studies of Science.
