Arriscraft Canada Brick Speaker Series: Kongjian Yu - Climate Resilience Inspired by Monsoon Culture

Waterloo Architecture is honoured to host the presentation “Climate Resilience Inspired by Monsoon Culture,” by renowned landscape architect Dr. Kongjian Yu, on Thursday, October 24, 2024.

Dr. Kongjian Yu, Founder and Principal Designer of Turenscape, is one of the most significant landscape architects globally, known for championing the “sponge city” concept as a solution to urban flooding. His work has redefined how cities can adapt to natural water flows, using ecological infrastructure to manage stormwater and enhance urban resilience.

Kongjian Yu received his Doctor of Design Degree at Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1995 with a dissertation titled ‘Security Patterns in Landscape Planning.’ He then practiced as a landscape planner and designer for two years with the SWA Group in the US before he returned to China in 1997. Since then, he has been a professor of landscape architecture, and urban and regional planning. He founded and has been leading the Graduate School of Landscape Architecture, and the College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at Peking University.

The Water Institute recently published a piece on Dr. Yu and his work.
