The Collapse of Reuse Practices: The Case of 20th C Belgium

Lionel Devlieger is an engineer-architect and historian; he studied in Ghent and Rome. In 2005 he co-founded Rotor, where he was project manager until his appointment as full-time associate professor (material-cultural history of architectural practice) at Ghent University in 2021. Lionel has also taught at universities across Europe and the US (UC Berkeley,TU Delft, Columbia University, the Architectural Association).  

In 2018 he co-authored Déconstruction et réemploi, a reference textbook on building component reuse now in its third print (EPFL press). His research now focuses on lessons to be learnt from history on how to shift the construction sector out of its current resource-squandering habits.
