John Straube's research has broadly been into aspects of technical measurable building performance, including the design process required to achieve technical outcomes. Energy-efficient, healthy, durable and sustainable building designs are a general goal of my research. Research has been focused on a range of narrower and more detailed goals: energy efficiency, moisture durability, air tightness, rain penetration control and management, alternative materials, the development of new building products, high performance mechanical space conditioning, enclosures for extreme climates, and buoyant architecture. My research typically has straddled the positions of improving current practice and emerging near term possibilities for professional practice.
