Master's thesis garners global attention

Waterloo Architecture graduate Prithula Prosun's master thesis was recently featured in O Globo, one of the largest newspapers in Brazil.

Prosun's 2011 thesis, The LIFT House (Low-Income Floodproof Technology) was originally designed and constructed in Dhaka, Bangladesh as a solution for sustainable housing for low-income communities in flood-prone areas.

Architecture students win first prize in SuperSkyscrapers competition

Congratulations to University of Waterloo Architecture students Di Wang, Alexandru Vilcu, and Richard Mui who recently won first place in the international SuperSkyscrapers contest.

The team won the Bamboo Skyscraper - Singapore competition. Jurors called their design "critical, distinctive, high-quality, and innovative."

Architecture students win the Norman Esch Enterprise Co-op Award

Suen and Cheng hold their large cheque for $4000Congratulations to Architecture students Victoria Suen and Carrie Cheng. They were one of two teams to be awarded the Norman Esch Enterprise Co-op Award on January 13, 2014. The award is open to any startup with at least one founder from the Faculty of Engineering.

Suen and Cheng won the $4000 dollar award for their startup called Rocket.

Philip Beesley and his team in Seoul, South Korea

Philip Beesley and his team including Waterloo Architecture students and graduates: Andrea Ling, Rob Gorbet, Taehyung Kim, Connor O’Grady, Sheida Shahi, May Wu, will soon return from a successful installation project in Seoul, South Korea. The installation entitled "Epiphyte Chamber" was on display as a part of the opening of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art’s new Seoul branch.  South Korean President Park Geun-hye was in attendance at the opening on November 13, and received a personal tour from Beesley of his installation.

Congratulations to SSEF Design Competition Winners!

Warmest congratulations to Gabriella den Elzen and James Clarke-Hicks, who won the Award of Excellence in the Steel Structures Education Foundation (SSEF) Student Design Competition called "Pop Up."  Congratulations to Jim Shi and Logan Steele who won the Award of Merit.

Mark Cichy and Terri Meyer-Boake were the supervisors; the project was a required submission for Arch 113 and Arch 173.
