Dr. Karim Karim and his partner, Amol Karnick, at KA Imaging, a University of Waterloo spin-off company, received one of six $1 Million Grand Challenges Canada awards on Friday, July 22, 2016. This significant financial support is to continue development and testing of an innovative low-cost, high resolution digital X-ray imager for use in developing countries to improve global health. Results demonstrated that the KA Imager achieve the same level of accuracy as conventional imagers, at a lower X-ray dose and cost.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the University of Waterloo and the University of Twente to establish an international, transatlantic data research network rooted in the combination of engineering and sciences with social and health sciences was signed at the Design Lab. 

CBB member, Dr. Murray Moo-Young, is a plenary speaker at the 10th International Society for Environmental Biotechnology conference in Barcelona, Spain, June 1-5, presented a lecture on "The energy-environment enigma: a review of dilemmas".

Vice-President, Academic & Provost Ian Orchard has announced the winners of the 2015 Outstanding Performance Award to reward faculty members for outstanding contribution in teaching and scholarship.

The University of Waterloo and the Medical Device Commercialization Centre (MDCC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding.  This will allow medical device technologies developed at Waterloo to access the services of MDCC.

CBB welcomes and is supporting the 18th CSChE (Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering) Quebec-Ontario Biotechnology Meeting held at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario on May 26-27, 2016.

Inaugural conference reflects on 100 years of heath care, looks to its future

Leaders in community health care, technology, research and entrepreneurship will gather next week to discuss the ways these areas intersect in medicine now and should in the future, while celebrating a milestone anniversary for one health-care facility in the region.

Lockheed Martin has invested $1.1 million into a research project that explores the design and feasibility of a mobile system that would reduce the work required by the heart and cardiac system for people engaging in a sustained period of exercise.

Alexander Wong the Canada Research Chair in Medical Imaging Systems, and his team in collaboration with clinical researchers at Sunnybrook Health Sciences, have introduced a breakthrough strategy to quicker and more effective cancer identification.

Wong and his team are the recipients of two Magna Cum Laude awards presented at the 2016 Annual Meeting of the Imaging Network of Ontario held in Toronto at the end of March.
