Alex Wong featured in Canadian Business story on the evolution of AI

Voice assistants and AI change the way we interact with technology, but what are the risks? Waterloo Engineering professor Alex Wong was interviewed about the continual evolution of AI and voice recognition…and how UW can play a part.

A novel combination of advanced design tools, low cost materials and commonly used manufacturing technologies and processes is helping University of Waterloo engineering professor Karim S. Karim develop better, safer imaging at a lower cost.

His startup company, KA Imaging, is commercializing a highly sensitive X-ray detector that produces a higher quality image with almost 40 percent less radiation, making the technology safer for both patients and the clinicians that operate it.

Pascal Poupart is leading a team that is developing interactive artificial intelligence that improves hockey and physical and mental health. In collaboration with HockeyTech, a local company that analyzes data from hockey games, the AI system can help talent scouts determine which players to recruit and help coaches to better understand what makes one player superior to another.

Waterloo professors were awarded $1.4 million for infrastructure through the John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF) by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). This will provide researchers with the foundational research infrastructure necessary to lead in their field.

Congratulations to the CBB members who received awards!
