The 2016 recipients of the Waterloo Engineering Faculty and Staff awards for outstanding contributions to education and research were celebrated by Engineering Dean Pearl Sullivan and colleagues at a dinner held January 25.
The Outstanding Staff Performance Award administrative categorywinner is Emily Stafford of the School of Architecture. She was recognized for her unwavering commitment to its graduate program and for her dedication to the graduate student experience.
The Outstanding Staff Performance Award technical category winner is Martin MacLeod, engineering computing. MacLeod was recognized for his professionalism, excellent work ethic and commitment to providing outstanding technical support to Engineering faculty, staff and students.
The Faculty’s Teaching Excellence Award recognizes outstanding teaching and commitment to the enrichment of Waterloo Engineering education. The 2016 award recipients are:
- Hector Budman, chemical engineering
- Kaan Erkorkmaz, mechanical and mechatronics Engineering
- Igor Ivkovic, systems design engineering
The Engineering Research Excellence Award honours outstanding research accomplishments, innovative ideas and dedication to the Faculty’s research. The 2016 award honorees are:
- Ali Elkamel, chemical engineering
- Hyung-Sool Lee, civil and environmental engineering
- Simarjeet Saini,electrical and computer engineering
A new award was presented for Excellence in Graduate Supervision, recognizing faculty members with an exemplary record of excellence in the supervision, training and mentoring of graduate students. For 2016, the recipients are:
- Catherine Burns, systems design engineering
- Ali Elkamel, chemical engineering
- Carl Haas, civil and environmental engineering
- Susan Tighe, civil and environmental engineering
