Outstanding faculty and staff honoured at dinner

The 2016 recipients of the Waterloo Engineering Faculty and Staff awards for outstanding contributions to education and research were celebrated by Engineering Dean Pearl Sullivan and colleagues at a dinner held January 25.    

The Outstanding Staff Performance Award administrative category winner is Emily Stafford of the School of Architecture. She was recognized Emily Staffordfor her unwavering commitment to its graduate program and for her dedication to the graduate student experience.

Emily Stafford of the School of Architecture was honoured with the Outstanding Staff Performance Award in the administrative category.


The Outstanding Staff Performance Award technical category winner is Martin MacLeod, engineering computing. MacLeod was recognized for his professionalism, excellent work ethic and commitment to providing outstanding technical support to Engineering faculty, staff and students.

The Faculty’s Teaching Excellence Award recognizes outstanding teaching and commitment to the enrichment of Waterloo Engineering education. The 2016 award recipients are:

Igor Ivkovic

Igor Ivkovic of systems design engineering was honoured with a Faculty Teaching Excellence Award.  

The Engineering Research Excellence Award honours outstanding research accomplishments, innovative ideas and dedication to the Faculty’s research. The 2016 award honorees are:

Hyung-Sool Lee

Hyung-Sool Lee of civil and environmental engineering was one of three recipients of the Faculty's  Engineering Research Excellence Award

A new award was presented for Excellence in Graduate Supervision, recognizing faculty members with an exemplary record of excellence in the supervision, training and mentoring of graduate students. For 2016, the recipients are:

Catherine Burns

Catherine Burns of systems design engineering was one of four recipients of the new award presented for Excellence in Graduate Supervision.
