During these strange and trying times of social isolation, the Waterloo Centre for German Studies will continue to support research into all aspects of the German-speaking world. Further, we remain committed to supporting German-related cultural programming for the university and our wider communities. The WCGS Grimm Lecture 2020 “Thinking Itself Is Dangerous: Reading Hannah Arendt Now” by Professor Samantha Rose Hill was scheduled to be held on 19 March 2020. Due to a state of emergency in Ontario to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, the public lecture had to be cancelled in order to protect the health of the community.

Grimm Lecture cancelled

In response to concerns about the coronavirus, the University of Waterloo is cancelling all non-essential events, and the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) is cancelling all bookings of its facilities. The Grimm Lecture was scheduled to be held in the CIGI Auditorium on Thursday, 19 March 2020, and must now be cancelled.

Foreign Language Assistant Exchanges to Germany 2020-2021

            In co-operation with the German Pedagogical Exchange Office (PAD), the Canadian Association of University Teachers of German is accepting applications for positions as English-language assistants in the Federal Republic of Germany. Information and application forms are available from your university’s Department of German (or Department of Modern Languages).
